Ranveer is currently working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’.
Mumbai: It’s no secret that Ranveer Singh raises the bar of a role with each performance. Having built anticipation as a menacing, super villain from the annals of history as Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmavati,’ he is set to do a complete turnaround as the eponymous ‘Gully Boy,’ in Zoya Akhtar’s next film. Co-starring Alia Bhatt, their pairing has already raised expectations. Zoya’s reputation as a filmmaker who makes a mark with her work also adds tremendous value to this project.
The duo’s palpable and energetic chemistry in a slew of television commercials had created immense curiosity and anticipation surrounding their impending on-screen pairing.
But the most anticipated aspect of ‘Gully Boy’ is Ranveer’s rapping skills, which will be on display here. Ranveer has already won praise from established Indian rapper Badshah and many others in the music space for his self composed rap for a clothing commercial. His spunk, clear tone of voice and energy stand out in rapping.
With ‘Gully Boy,’ a film that is supposed to be chronicling the journey of desi rappers Naezy and Divine, two super talented sensations that have emerged from Mumbai’s poor, crowded neighbourhoods, Ranveer will pour himself into the character.
A source close to the actor says, “Ranveer will give more than his 100 percent to this role as always. Zoya is a close friend of his, and someone who has trusted him with her first home production. He carries some responsibility and is absolutely excited about the role. Over time, while prepping, he built a rapport with Naezy and Divine and loves their sound. He is therefore, beginning to research and think about building the right body language, accent, swag and rapping sound for this role.”
With dedication and complete sincerity on display, Ranveer is set to surprise once again. A versatile superstar who can completely become a character in a film, he will push the envelope with this part of a Gully Boy too. This is one rapper who is well worth watching out for! – Deccan Chronicle
